Maine Flower Show a Success

Posted on

Thanks to Our Supporters

Our very first Maine Flower Show was a great success! We want to thank everyone who came out to support the show. So many people who attended gave us wonderful feedback. We had an amazing volunteer staff as well and could not have done this without them. In addition to over 100 vendors, we had 16 display gardens and 37,000 square feet of gardens and displays all on one floor, along with four days of hands-on workshops for gardeners eager to get their hands dirty.

Our exhibitors did an amazing job creating their garden displays, which takes about five full days to set up. A lot of labor and love goes into each display. Here’s a little peek at what goes on behind the scenes:

We had over 16,000 people attend the show this year, outstanding! After everyone voted, Skillins Greenhouses and Pray’s Hardscapes won the People’s Choice Award.

If you attended the show, we hope you had a chance to stop by our booth! We gave away 10,000 “Mystery Seed Packets” to help local Mainers Plant a Pollinator Garden! Did you pick up a packet? Find out what you’ve got here: Mystery Seed Decoder. And if you’ve already started planting, you can register your garden with the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge. Need help with your planting? Visit plantsomethingmaine.org to find a garden center or landscaper in your community.

We would like to give a big shout out, once again, to our media sponsors WJBQ 97.9, WHOM 94.9, WGME 13/Fox 23, and Maine Media Collective for helping us promote the show. Without their support, the show could not go on!

And the rest of our sponsors offered invaluable support as well: Estabrook’s, New England Specialty Stone, Wallace Events, Moonlighting Production Services, Beauregard Equipment, Inc., Chad Little Outdoor Power Equipment, Pierson Nurseries, Inc., Rowe Westbrook, Broadreach Public Relations, CMC Crowd Management Consultants of Maine, LLC, Spire 29 On the Square, CCE Golf Cars, Longfellow’s Greenhouses, Audet Enterprises, LLC, and Picture Perfect Landscapes, LLC.

Maine Flower Show at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine from Thursday, March 30th through Sunday, April 2nd, 2017!

Pete Nenortas, of Satronen Sound, filmed our Facebook Live video.

We are also grateful to Black Bear Medical for donating wheelchairs, and to VIP Tour & Charterbus Company for being so generous with their shuttle buses and helping us get people to and from Thompson’s Point.

Because of the overwhelming turnout, we did have a few glitches with parking and shuttle service, and we want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. We are already taking measures to make next year’s parking and shuttle service as smooth as possible so that wait times are shorter.
